Tour Guide Apprentice
Programme
The NATH Training Programme for
Apprentice Tour Guides is an industry supported NATH initiative aimed to
open the first full vocational training to the now formally established
profession of tour guiding.
Young Namibians who seek to
become involved in a crucial aspect of the Tourism Industry will now be
able to spend two years combining classroom education with practical
training in the field.
With the combination of social
skills and subject knowledge this profession requires from tour guides,
training will ideally entail a formal education in a classroom situation
linked to a real working environment. With in-service training
presenting itself as a way out, trainee tour guides will require both
apprentice employment and financial support to pay for the training and
subsequent assessment to obtain the National Qualification.
Upon completion, young
successful apprentice graduates will be able to obtain a formally
recognized qualification as level three National Guides. With tourism
now the largest growing sector of the Namibian economy, this
qualification will secure employment and open SME possibilities in the
field of self employment.
Twenty-four modules make up a
total of 78 formal classroom training days that are required to train
apprentice tour guides for a Level Three Guide Qualification of the NQF
framework. Spread over two years this amounts to 8 weeks of formal
training per year. In addition, trainees will take part in a seven day
training tour to different areas in Namibia.
NATH is a proud member of the
Federation of Namibian Tourism Association (FENATA) as official academy
for tour guide training. It has track records of distinguished service
to the industry and aims to remain the training provider of choice to
Namibians in the tourism industry.
